Internet of Behaviour (IoB), the Extension of Internet of Things (IoT)

Internet of things is an emerging technology, started influencing the day to day lives of all, and it will definitely be the technology of this decade.  Internet of Behaviour (IoB) is the extension of IoT, which uses the data collected through sensors and devices to analyse human psychology. It combines technology, data analysis, and human behaviour, which is required for a modern-day business, from marketing, sales, manufacturing and e-commerce.

In this blog, I compiled the concepts, examples and job opportunities for IoT and IoB.

Internet of Things (IoT)

IoT is the network of physical things embedded with sensors and software to connect and exchange data with devices and systems over the internet. These devices range from ordinary household objects to sophisticated industrial tools.

The 'thing' in the internet of things might be a person with a sensor implanted to monitor the glucose level or an air-conditioning system with a sensor to monitor the temperature. The sensor collects data and sends it over the internet to a person or system for further processing.

IoT will be the most essential technology of the future, right from household appliances, electronic gadgets to modern industries.

Some of the general applications of IoT

Health Care

With the support of wearable sensors, the vital parameters of patients can be recorded and send directly to the doctors in real-time.  This will help to improve the patients monitoring process during any critical conditions.

Traffic Management

IoT can help convey the traffic information to the road users and traffic system to reduce congestion to divert traffic and better traffic management.

Fleet Management

IoT enables fleets to operate efficiently and economically. With suitable sensors convey information to the base, you can track vehicle location, speed, the performance of the engine, tire pressure etc. So that you can effectively and economically operate the fleets.

Agriculture

It is possible to monitor the farm remotely with IoT technology, with suitable sensors to monitor irrigation, soil conditions, growth of crops. The data collected from sensors can be used to make faster and accurate decisions in agriculture.

Future Projections

The IoT connected devices in 2021 are expected to be 13.8 billion units, and in 2025 it is projected to 30.9 billion unitsThe industries spending on IoT in 2023 is projected as 1.1 trillion USD.

Job Opportunities

Great opportunities are there in IoT if you are knowledgeable in any of the following IoT related technologies.

  • Embedded Systems
  • Cloud Computing
  • Edge Computing
  • Programming
  • Networking
  • Security
  • Communication Protocols
  • UI/UX Design

Internet of Behaviour (IoB)

Internet of Behaviour (IoB) is the combination of technology, data analysis and human behaviour

Internet of Behaviour (IoB) analyses the behavioural data gathered from the IoT devices such as wearable technologies, individual online activities, smart household electrical devices. It provides valuable information about the behaviour and interest.

Internet of Behaviour (IoB), the Extension of the Internet of Things (IoT)
Internet of Behaviour is an extension of IoT.

Gartner forecasted IoB as one of the strategic technology trends of 2021 onwards.  IoB is a technology that uses the data collected from various sources, primarily through IoT sensors and systems, to change people's behaviour.

It is estimated that 40% of the world population's activities will be tracked to influence their behaviour.

Internet of behaviour tries to understand the collected data and give suggestions based on human psychology.

Understanding human psychology plays a significant role in the fields of marketing and sales. With tons of data collected about people's buying behaviour, companies can get good insights for marketing and sales through the internet of behaviour analysis.

In future, the Internet of Behaviour will be an excellent tool for marketing and sales.  With the insights, companies can develop their marketing strategies effectively instead of doing everything in a trial and error method.

Also, they can influence the customer to buy products based on their past purchases.

Some Suggestive IoB Applications

E-Commerce Shopping Sites

IoB will be a big boost for the shopping sites to enhance their sales. With the insight from a particular customer's behaviour, the shopping sites can show the product they needed and suggest additional products brought together by a similar buyer.

Employee Behaviour

In future, the workers on the shop floor and sales will be tracked to assess the performance. Therefore, IoB is going to play a significant role in improving the productivity of the industries.

Digital Marketing

Internet of Behaviour will be an essential tool in digital marketing. Based on the data from social media, companies can do digital marketing campaigns effectively.

Final thoughts

IoT and IoB will rule the business and industrial sectors in the future, lots of jobs will be created. Upgrade your knowledge on these areas if you are interested in working on this emerging technology.
